Advocates of pay-for-performance have argued we need to give it more time. Is a decade enough? Its time to declare P4P as we have done it a failure. Our @bmj_latest with the terrific @joefigs2 and @IgnaBonfrer.https://twitter.com/joefigs2/status/948912460823760896 …

For hospitals, being under some form of P4P for over a decade did not help improve patient outcomes. Work with @IgnaBonfrer @ashishkjha in @bmj_latest https://twitter.com/bmj_latest/status/948731998415347712 …

My view of the data: training and incentives are necessary for better health care delivery but woefully insufficient. Crucial additions: creating systems that make better care simpler and discovering how to enable their adoption widely.

Yes! At our team meeting this week, our nurse told us we laughed too loudly, she couldn’t hear patients on the phone. A very good problem to have!

No levers works effectively on its own. Multiple levers are key and understanding how they work together remains a challenge. I would appreciate your comments on our recent paper.http://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/7/8/e014825.info …

The pos side is that hospitals are invested in obtaining and monitoring data. The neg side is once the hospitals have the data, the easiest way to increase reimbursement is to manipulate the acuity calculations, not to improve the delivery of care

I was excited to join a hospital quality committee because I thought we would be implementing new quality systems to improve outcomes. The first meeting focused on the denominator, not the numerator. We rarely talked about the numerator.

Agree with AG, of course, but are we really “all in” for P4P or is reimbursement still mainly volume based? Argue the latter because P4P doesn’t keep the lights on
