One reason US has too much opiate use is big pharma advertising. Look at advertising ramping up for hyzingla.

I believe that ship sailed. It's past tense now. Opioids are becoming obsolete in pain treatment.

Appropriate Opiate deprescribing for those being treated for chronic pain with opiates needs to happen. Also, pain science approach needs to be added.

Will you help stand up for those in chronic
#IntractablePain? Drs are abandoning patients and many now getting on anti opioid bandwagon. ERs turning ppl away who are suffering. Many resorting to#SuicideDue2Pain -
Unfortunately, many patients that have chronic pain taking opiates get little relief of pain as the opiate itself is causing pain- Opiate induced hyperalgesia. Must focus on non- pharm approach for success. Pain from central sensitization of nervous system.

Many patients myself included get excellent pain relief from opioids, one size does not fit all in medicine
-
It was a HUGE mistake for physicians to stop allowing prescriptions with nothing in place. That is a travesty.
-
I agree better treatment needs to be developed but stopping the treatment of pain before doing so if a failure that will reach far beyond pain. Patients no longer trust DR's and that will impact society for decades

But are newer opioids genuinely better/safer than morphine?
-
2/2 Or simply, newer opioids under patent protection, earn pharm co’s far more so pushed harder than morphine?
-
I'm a Canadian pediatric palliative dr - "newer" opioids may have fewer side effects and in some cases can be administered more effectively

On what do you base that Europe is "about right" ??
-
It's incredible, isn't it? Mindless drivel. It's just "too much" because it's not the same average number. Not the right amount of suffering here, too much suffering there. How did we get here? We've hit a speedbump on our way to growing knowledge.

Worryingly Australia looks as fat as North America on that opioid infographic.
