Why protests worked in civil rights era but don't now: It's protesting vs actually organizing a movement. @NewYorkerhttps://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/08/21/is-there-any-point-to-protesting?mbid=nl_170815_Daily&CNDID=36499481&spMailingID=11702702&spUserID=MTMzMTgzNzg0Njg4S0&spJobID=1221366042&spReportId=MTIyMTM2NjA0MgS2 …

This is a false choice--the new organizations forcing the kinds of change described here have been galvanized by protest, not exhausted.

Not just organizing tho: "Outcomes rely on how you coördinate efforts, and on the skill with which you use existing influence as help."

Today all we do is protest without taking the enormous risks of civil disobedience, which is what actually works.

You're correct, protest ought to be used as a catalyst for the movement. There's a biblical principle, "Faith without works is dead".

Why expect a failed system to work? Better to get out there and just do it. Protest only translates through actions, not rhetoric.

Protesting seems transient. Change comes from being involved politically to improve the laws and create intiatives I believe.
