Look what happened in New York. Unaffordable premiums. That said. What's to stop State from imposing their own mandate ?

The insurers explained this better than anyone in 1994 (0:30)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dt31nhleeCg …

but if skinny repeal passed, isnt it an easy fix for blue states like NY, CA NJ etc? If red states aren't interested, well, freedom!
-
States need authority to impose waiting periods as well if mandates are not nation-wide.
-
Not so sure about this b/c the enrollment period would still exist - set by feds
-
Non-subsidy eligible uninsured from non-mandate states can move to mandate states if acquire expensive condition.
-
That's true of medicaid expansion v. non-expansion. I don't think it's that easy to move but let that be the biggest problem
-
Non-subsidy eligible pop is not comparable to Medicaid pop. Professional families with very high costs will consider it.

You do realize that ACA guaranteed issue & mandated purchase doesn't control costs but elevates them for all?

Skinny Repeal without repairing the Exchanges would be wrong and bad for the Senate to do. Senate needs to go back to Regular Order

I keep telling people about this (moved to WA state in 1987, watched it happen). Grateful I always had employer-sponsored insurance.

Forced failure of the ACA is what the Repubs want. It would eventually force a replacement bill.

There was a time when you couldn't buy individual health insurance in the state. This is the reason why.

I suspect that is the goal. If they can't repeal it, make it fail.

That is the Republican goal. No insurance at all for anyone.

We were stuck in a "grandfathered" WA policy at $3,000 per month for family of 3. ACA cut that by 2/3, and we're not even on exchange.
