It's a huge boost for the prospects of the poorest. But I also agree with these analysts that it's a mistake to not cover primary care -- the essential foundation for improved health and life expectancyhttps://www.livemint.com/Opinion/CqPT0Kql72a4BDFcY0WcnM/Modicare-is-not-enough-to-reform-healthcare.html …

With due respect, might we please not put the name of a political figure to a welfare program (despite India’s culture/practice). Our American experience makes us uniquely qualified and aware of the pitfalls.

There are 2 components of ayushman Bharat 1. Upgradation of existing PHCs 2. Insurance scheme So why are you drinking the two regardless of what Sen has to say .

@GorwayGlobal what do you think about this latest hoax from the Machine Of Deceiving India? They have actually cut real term health spending and chose not to implement the Reddy recommendations.

My understanding is that Ayushman Bharat covers UPTO 100 million families (500 million people, age unrestricted) for a max of INR 0.5 million (annually?) yes the plan is to have PHC's/Wellness centres, but the insurance kicks in when hospital procedural interventions are done.

The PHC idea is good, but not new. I worked in a PHC in 1974 for 6 months in Sindewahi district. I have no knowledge of what the staffing, facilities, capacity and services covered will be. I have not seen any detail yet. The 5 lakhs hospital care cover is per family.

Like many, I am not convinced that this is the most pressing priority. It will be delivered by hospitals large and small, private clinics and nursing homes, and billed to the Scheme. Much scope for false claims, and overdiagnosis / overtreatment. Guarded welcome; Wait and see.

Thanks @GorwayGlobal for your balanced reply. Realistic thinking tells you "Ayushman Bharat" is the next "Swachh Bharat". I am losing my patience with what I can see as the next hoax of the Godse-worshipping mass murderers.

Good primary care access reduces secondary and tertiary care costs and improves patient outcomes. Short- sighted not to cover primary. But kudos still for creating a national healthcare insurance program in India.

Most important thing is the condition of government hospitals has worsened in Mumbai as well as whole Maharashtra after BJP government took office So most important thing is to cure the health of these government hospitals rather than giving people free treatment

Although I am a diehard Modi supporter but will say Modi Government is not going to do anything new as in Maharashtra we had Rajiv Gandhi Jan Arogya yojna which is now replaced with Mahatma Phules name Only thing one have to see whether this Modicare will allow in Pvt hospitals
