Every time I think this whole debacle can't possibly get worse, it does. It is simply a national, moral embarrassment. This is not who we are.

Horrific—and I would never defend the Trump Administration—but overprescribing psychotropics to children is endemic among foster children too. It would help to tighten prescribing guidelines and educate pediatricians/pharmacists on which adults can seek Rx for a child in custody.

Horrific...AND.... No need, for the but. Fighting the current situation with immigrant children provides an opportunity to educate on foster care, too. Then we can speak out about it, also. Thanks for educating us- always more to learn and more work to do.

This horrifies me. As an adult, I've been a psych patient, sometimes on emergency holds where of course you can't leave, and where you have to take the medication they give you. If you refuse, you're marked as non-compliant. 1/3

Depending on the facility, that can lead to punishments like isolation, or you might have to stay longer while your case is reviewed. As an adult with no language barrier, able to talk to family every day and has regular visiting hours, the loss of control is terrifying. 2/3

The kinds of medications that the lawsuit talks about are heavy duty things. They can be amazingly helpful, but they have major serious effects and should be used only when medically necessary. Drugging children who can't speak for themselves and have no advocates is barbaric.

Who is administering these drugs? If it is a doctor or nurse the should have their licenses reviewed if not pulled. If it is a non medical person they should be charged for practicing without a license. This is unconscionable.

As a doctor, you know they implemented these drugs to force them into being submissive to their will & purpose, despite the deep distress they were aware it caused these children when strangers took & kept them away from their parents. They applied it to console the inconsolable.

If I could learn to forgive all my violators without so much as an apology, then so in time can these children, because forgiving is what enables our lives to continue. It's unforgettable though, taught us about the nature of people & how they'll behave as territorial as animals.

Hopefully this will madness will stop, but where is the outcry about American children (mostly minorities) who are treated similarly in foster home sand Juvie lockups?

Not everyone is aware of this happening in foster care. I was not. We need to educate and ask for support on this, too. It's not one over the other.

This is outrageously irresponsible to medicate these traumatized children. Their cries and screams are a survival tactic. Horrible.
