I think too few people of power have truly considered what “anything” could/will mean in the phrase “he can do anything” (after acquittal).

Too few have actually, literally gamed out the multitude of possibilities of what tools he could corrupt, and for what purpose, starting Thursday, when the world becomes Trump’s oyster. Have they made lists? Considered the repercussions arising therefrom?

Don’t get me wrong, giving absolute power to *anyone* is a monumental mistake. Every time. But when the power in question is the U.S. federal government & military, *and* the recipient is a malignant narcissist psychopath... well, I just think too few have thought it through.

*[Note: I’ve not forgotten the judicial branch. The courts still currently operates as some check on the exercise of exec authority, but not in holding Trump personally, criminally liable or accountable via impeachment. Thus, “absolute,” meaning “power with impunity.”]

Btw, Anyone *ahem* Murkowski *cough* who imagines or suggests Trump has learned his lesson—that, now properly chastened by the shame and ordeal of impeachment, he won’t try anything like *that* again—is either a liar or a fool.

ALL of this has only moved in *one* direction. One. Since 2016, since before the election, Trump’s path to power has arced along *one* trajectory—away from democracy and towards autocratic rule. Dragging the country along with him as he goes.

Having no internal mechanisms of restraint—no sense of decency, empathy or honor, no moral compass with which to recognize right and wrong, coupled with a lifetime of ‘getting away with it’—nothing will be out of bounds if he sees it to his benefit. Nothing.

I don’t think they get that. Too few of the people who have the power to prevent such a grant of authority—to stop from giving absolute power without criminal or congressional consequence to such a man as Trump—too few of them have really thought it through.

Another problem, of course—for another conversation—is that too many other powerful people actually think it’s a *good* idea, that granting Trump absolute power will be good for them, too. They will be wrong. In the end, they will be wrong. We all will.
