The 2019 state legislative session is all over but the crying (and the signing or vetoing). How did our state reps vote? 🤔
Oh, you already know the answer. Why are they so bad?? 🤬

This serves as a reminder for how corrupt our state legislature really is. This was a bi-partisan bill promoting public safety and transparency. 😡

The EMS Transparency bill, HB 264, passed the House 148-6 and Senate 51-0, but the bill died in reconciliation because a poison pill was added that nobody could support (gutting state ethics laws).
We're very disappointed, but we will keep fighting for passage of HB 264 in 2020.

This is the last day of the legislative session.
Among other things, we are concerned about HB 264, the EMS transparency bill. It's at the finish line, but we need some support from higher up to push it over.

NEW VIDEO: Fare Free Transit - It just makes sense
Watch: youtu.be/HN1RKjFH5qo
Fare-free buses may seem like a distant fantasy, but Athens' own UGA Transit has been fare-free for decades. What are some of the benefits to removing the fare-box? Let's find out!
4
7
Why Athens Transit Should Stop Charging Fares
Reason #4: Fare-free saves us money!
Fares are only 11.8% of expected revenue for Athens Transit in FY2019, and 20% of that is spent just in the process of fare-collection itself. Fare-boxes have a large overhead cost.

I'm going to file a bill tomorrow to ban private prisons in Georgia.
I don't think there should be a profit motive to incarcerate people. And, it's not any cheaper.
Good night.

Why Athens Transit Should Stop Charging Fares
Reason #5: Increased ridership
Removing the fare-box has increased ridership everywhere it has been tried, sometimes by 200% or more! This improves performance metrics like cost per rider, because riders go up while costs go down.
