    ✅ The final wing is now deployed! Before we celebrate, we’ve still got work to do. The team is working hard at to latch the wing into place, a multi-hour process. When the final latch is secure, will be fully unfolded in space.

    CONFIRMED: “The world’s most sophisticated tripod” has not only deployed but also latched! Each of the struts for this tripod, which helps ’s secondary mirror direct light into the instruments, is about 25 feet long (7.6 m)!

    Following a successful deployment test of Webb’s secondary mirror, technicians and engineers in cleanroom suits visually inspect the tripod-like support structure that holds it in place.

    Shields up! has completed the tensioning of its tennis-court-size sunshield. This five-layered shade will protect the telescope from the heat of the Sun, Earth and Moon, helping it in infrared light. Details & next steps:

    The mission has successfully launched, completed three Centaur engine burns, and is on its way! STPSat-6 is scheduled to separate from Centaur into geosynchronous orbit in just about 6 hours.
