    ✅ The final wing is now deployed! Before we celebrate, we’ve still got work to do. The team is working hard at to latch the wing into place, a multi-hour process. When the final latch is secure, will be fully unfolded in space.

    CONFIRMED: “The world’s most sophisticated tripod” has not only deployed but also latched! Each of the struts for this tripod, which helps ’s secondary mirror direct light into the instruments, is about 25 feet long (7.6 m)!

    Following a successful deployment test of Webb’s secondary mirror, technicians and engineers in cleanroom suits visually inspect the tripod-like support structure that holds it in place.

    The mission has successfully launched, completed three Centaur engine burns, and is on its way! STPSat-6 is scheduled to separate from Centaur into geosynchronous orbit in just about 6 hours.

    Last night, we awarded NASA flight director Gene Kranz the 2021 Michael Collins Trophy for Lifetime Achievement. Kranz's legendary career began in the U.S. Air Force and then took him to NASA mission control, from Project Mercury through the Shuttle Program.
