The late Dick Hunstead was extremely generous to the astronomical community, mentoring many young scientists. In 2017, Dick and his wife Penny used $1.4 million from the sale of their home to support the next generation of young astrophysicists.

It is with the greatest regret to pass on the news that our esteemed colleague, astrophysicist Richard W. Hunstead, passed away last night. Dick was a superb human being who achieved many things, inspired many people, and generously endowed our Sydney Institute for Astronomy.
