That feel when your phone is pinging so constantly from the politics group text that you sneak a peek under the patio bar table to see what the 70 new messages are about and you get to share the good news with your colleagues 🥰
Physiotherapist told me I’m not allowed to sit for more than 15 minutes at a time until my injury is resolved and while it is VERY inconvenient to get up and pace three times every hour while attending a conference it is also very good and honestly recommended 🚶🏼♀️
This weekend has been a kind of mini-meeting for a group of Ontario/Quebec dark matter researchers and it has been AMAZING to connect with so many of my new local(-ish) colleagues & learn about the exciting work everyone is doing. Very happy to be part of this research community!
about particle astrophysics! 💥🔭 Looking forward to a week of talks and discussions about dark matter, cosmic rays, neutrinos, gravitational waves, and cosmology — all the fun stuff 😁
Fun video about runway numbers!
Another fun fact (that makes sense if you know how runways are numbered) is that if you take the numbers on either end of the runway and subtract the smaller one from the larger one you always get 18.
says: “I kinda like working on just whatever fun stuff comes up, which is not what you’re supposed to do” LOL hard same Katie, and if it’s good enough for you then that’s v reassuring 😌
"7 Minutes of Terror" video and it remains one of my favorite space videos of all time. And since it was released, we've done the skycrane maneuver not once, but *TWICE*
Space telescopes are amazing and all but it’s pictures like this one taken by actual people from their backyards that reminds me that all these wonders are just RIGHT UP THERE in the SKY and all it takes is a couple mirrors and lenses and you can LOOK RIGHT AT THEM 🪐🔭🤯
When an article says "some scientists think" then remember this: I, a scientist, once thought I could fit a whole orange in my mouth. I could, it turns out, get it in there, but I hadn't given sufficient thought to the reverse operation.
Feeling a good deal better. Now able to move in several exciting directions! Physio is confident I am not irrevocably broken, as long as I do my homework.
[bargaining with my sciatic nerve] “If you let me get in and out of a chair without excruciating pain I promise I will have perfect posture and do regular core-strengthening exercises from now on”
When people say “you’re made of star stuff” it’s supposed to be inspiring, but all it tells me is that I exploded once and I will very probably do it again.
Here's a simulation of the formation of the Cartwheel Galaxy from Chris Mihos and Sean Maxwell of Case Western Reserve University showing how this type of collision can upset a beautiful spiral structure of a galaxy.
#PPOD: The bright clusters and nebulae of planet Earth's night sky are often named for flowers or insects. Though its wingspan covers over 3 light-years, NGC 6302 or the Butterfly Nebula is no exception. Credit:
#NASAWebb provides us with a rich view of the crimson “spokes” of gas that feed into the Cartwheel Galaxy’s central active black hole.

I don’t have a lot of “this is how you should work” opinions because everyone works differently but for me, I’ve found that it’s UTTER FOLLY to not take at least a day off work after returning from travel, even if that travel was vacation.
Bottom line: These anonymous twitter accounts want big lists of followers, and you don't want to be on those lists. Please don't follow, or unfollow. There are many other legit places to get amazing science information.
Twitter is full of "wonder science" accounts, many of them full of stolen images & misinformation. The recent viral tweet about the alleged void in space offers a good case study in how to spot the fakes. 1/5
is forever for me the embodiment of grace, daring, intelligence, fun, inspiration, beauty, talent & the future.
Today I am heart-sad at her passing.
I consider our dearest friendship a great treasure & privilege in my life.
We celebrate the life of Nichelle Nichols, Star Trek actor, trailblazer, and role model, who symbolized to so many what was possible. She partnered with us to recruit some of the first women and minority astronauts, and inspired generations to reach for the stars.
Just arrived back home after a whirlwind trip to #OSH22. So many cool people, so much awesome technology, endless incredible stories. Great especially to hang out with
