From WWII to Nixon, every President expanded Executive power. With Watergate Congress pulled back some of that power, but advisors to Ford started rebuilding. Both parties have expanded it ever since. Trump has abused what was already immense power accumulated in the Presidency.

The impeachment case against Trump necessarily speaks to his utter lack of character and complete disregard for the responsibilities of his office. This includes the Ukraine quid pro quo, of course.

But it also includes his cruelty toward parts of the country that don't politically support him, his exploitation of foreign relations for personal profit, and, yes, his regular harangues on Twitter and at rallies that bring disgrace to the country.

Impeachment is both a legal and political act. Impeachment articles will cite misuse of public funds, soliciting foreign help in elections, obstruction of justice - all statutory Federal crimes. But impeachment must also speak to Trump's broader assault against the Constitution.
