Julian #Assange has a right to asylum in Ecuador, without facing extradition & jail in the US. He did a public service, exposing war crimes. He's served 6 yrs in inhuman conditions in the Ecuador Embassy in London. Defend his human rights 6pm 19 July. I support you on most things Peter but think you're completely wrong on this. What about the human rights of the women who claimed he sexually assaulted? Don't they count? He's a selfish, narcissistic fugitive from justice deserving of no sympathy whatsoever.

You are wrong on this. In fact, SMS messages from the "complainant" came to light in 2015 (and ultimately led to the Swedish "preliminary investigation" being closed) where she said she didn't want to accuse him, she was "railroaded by police", & police "made it up" to "get him".

If that's true he has nothing to fear by walking free then does he?

Assange has been granted status as a political refugee under the 1951 Refugee Convention. He is a politically persecuted journalist. Formally, legally and in fact.https://www.theguardian.com/media/2017/apr/21/arresting-julian-assange-is-a-priority-says-us-attorney-general-jeff-sessions …

Politically persecuted - don't make me laugh! He committed a crime in Sweden and didn't want to be answerable for it.

On the contrary, he repeatedly asked to have his statement taken and the prosecutor waited 6 years to do it, and only after being compelled by a court. But the persecution, of course, has to do with the US who wants to put him in prison because of his publishing work.pic.twitter.com/1BqH62Gfqa

He refused to return to have the statement taken. The US are entitled to pursue him legally. It's not ' persecution', it's law- his gaslighting of this issue is pathetic. He's not a martyr, he's imposed this on himself. Good luck to him. He's wasting his own life, nobody else's.

You think it's "the law" for the head of the CIA to establish how Constitutional protections do not apply to foreign publishers? And it's not "him" who says it, it's ACLU and Human Rights Watch and constitutional lawyers and human rights defenders on both sides of the Atlantic.pic.twitter.com/VSqTDiXSbI

Posting memes from assange sympathisers is not evidence. Opinions are not evidence. He skipped bail and chooses to remain in the embassy out of paranoia and ego.

Those aren't memes, they're quotes. And these aren't "opinions", they're the informed positions of the most respected members of the human rights community.Bail violations are minor infractions typically sanctioned with a fine, if at all. But the US political persecution is real.

skipping bail for a potential rape charge is not a minor infraction, it's deliberately obstructing justice. They are (allegedly) cherry picked opinions on his situation. He can walk free whenever he wants.
