A new report shows the #COVID19 pandemic has adversely affected the #AAPI community, including economic hardship, negative health outcomes & rising incidents of hate/violence. While CA’s #APIEquityBudget is helping, greater investment is needed. aapidata.com/reports/
February is #BlackHistoryMonth when we celebrate those who opened the doors toward a more inclusive society. The fight, however, is not over. We can honor their legacy by continuing the pursuit of equality & justice for all.

I had a great time in the last week celebrating the #LunarNewYear on both coasts. First, I kicked off the #YearOfTheRabbit with other #AAPI leaders at the residence of VP Harris in Wash DC. Then I capped off the fun Saturday by participating in the LNY parade in San Francisco.

The courts validated voter-approved Regional Measure 3, which raises billions for Bay Area transit & highway projects that are critical for our economy. The Bay Area Caucus Leadership was key in getting this 2018 measure on the ballot. Glad it prevailed.

I joined the Governor & other leaders in meeting farm workers & community leaders impacted by the #HalfMoonBay tragedy. We want to make sure they have the resources they need & let them know our work in curbing #GunViolence is not done.

Authorities say the #HalfMoonBay shooting was workplace violence. Reminder my bill, #AB61, now allows employers & co-workers to file a gun violence restraining order (#GVRO) with a court to temporarily take away someone’s firearm if they pose a danger.

What is the world coming to? We just held a moment of silence on the Assembly floor and a vigil for the 11 victims in #MontereyPark. Shocked by the news of 7 people killed in #HalfMoonBay. More senseless #GunViolence. Too many guns in the wrong hands.

Happy Lunar New Year! The Year of the Rabbit starts tomorrow & for the first time in CA history, it’s an official state holiday. The designation is special because it says #AAPI communities matter.
Wrapped up the 2023 Bay Area Caucus Summit with a tour of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. It was cold but fun! Can’t wait to get back to the Capitol to tackle the policy issues we discussed over the last couple of days. Stay tuned.
