This amazing conversation between 's and author digs into some of the heavy moments in Children of Virtue and Vengeance (and why YA audiences can be trusted to handle them).

As a reader who is Asian, something as simple as the use of the word “their” feels othering. It means “not us.” This could have be re-worded: “Old racist tropes that portray Asian food and customs as unsafe...”

I saw this yesterday and had to put my phone down and take a lap around the living room to collect myself. Penguins are basically bird giraffes. Owls have legs like the Radio City Rockettes. Everything I've ever known...a lie!

Here it is! There has been a lot of great commentary on inequity in the publishing industry and the cartoonish depiction of migrants but what stood out to me most from producing this piece was how overtly American Dirt was written for the white gaze.

  15. On New Year’s Eve this year I went to the Holocaust Museum. (I know.) There’s an exhibit on display now about what the US knew about the Holocaust and when. These were some of the opinions Americans held in 1938

I learned something from that has always stuck with me. There is no such thing as "Diverse People"or a "Diverse Person." Diversity is something that happens in relation to and with other people. Let's not use the term diversity as a false signifier to describe people.
