If there's one thing that I could beg for is for all ERs and hospital providers to aggressively treat opioid withdrawal + pain. It's evidence-based and humane. We need to look at our own practices and what we are not doing, rather than pathologize or blame individuals.

These substance use treatment centers bragging about coercion (strongly suggesting); forced 12 step meetings, not giving #mat #buprenorphine and “accountability drug screens”, just highlights the issues in #michigan at a systemic level. People are dying BC of their moral elitism.

So sad with all the attention over lead, I can’t get a real contact to address the machine parts that broke off into my food from Thanksgiving. Makes me question all of the attachments and additional products I’ve bought from them.

Nothing like waking up to this…Knowing we have health insurance that should be covering this is reassuring, but what about people who don’t? Would they get all the additional tests and medical treatment that will bring in more cost?

Do you support non-prescription access to naloxone (the opioid overdose reversal medication)?
Do you think naloxone should be available over-the-counter?
If so, the FDA wants to hear from you by 11:59pm EST January 17th!

Today is @AnarchoPharma's birthday. Joe died last March, of an aneurysm. He was a fierce harm redux/drug user rights activist. He was often dismissed due to mental health + drug stigma. Pls read his tweets today. See his brilliance, compassion, creativity & rage at injustice.

A 🧵 on fentanyl, the misinformation surrounding it, and how it’s related to the War on Drugs. Scan the QR code for sources. It goes to a google doc with everything used. Always check your sources and stay compassionate. 1/?

Out of 91.8 million who used prescription opioids in 2015:
- 95.3% did NOT misuse them. Of those who misused, nearly 2/3rd did so to relieve pain.
- 99.2% did NOT end up with OUD

Drug decrim means people who use drugs will never go to jail just for using/possessing drugs.
10 years ago this month, I was a full-time paramedic student on the dean’s list, working at Domino’s Pizza, earning income and military education benefits. I was addicted to heroin.🧵

The amount of restrictions and barriers in these “anti-poverty grants“ are the exact reasons they will not make a dent and keep ppl in poverty. 🤮 It’s so degrading and dehumanizing.

I’m so bummed. Making Toum (garlic sauce) for the family and couldn’t finish because the food processor/chopper melted and sent metal shavings and Plastic pieces into the food. Made my hands hurt for nothing.

I wrote this for Filter about what it was like seeing pharmacy-based methadone in Australia contrasted to the carnival of cruelty - clinical OTP setting in the US.
Why are people being punished for asking for help?

We can’t blame kids for:
📌not resolving conflicts,
📌acting out,
📌not reaching out/receiving help;
When adults aren’t providing environments:
✅that value/affirm them,
✅that show they’re cared about,&
✅w/ tools & skills
to work through their issues w/in themselves & w/peers.

"Xylazine is the primary adulterate (in the drug supply)," Shinefeld said. "I say that because we no longer consider fentanyl a primary adulterate, but (rather) the primary component. Fentanyl started to take over the drug supply in 2010. There's not very much heroin left.

Police of America: Fentanyl doesn't fly up your nose in a breeze and cause overdose. No alleged police overdose has ever been confirmed by a routine toxicology test. This case looks like the others, with symptoms of panic and anxiety. Be safe out there.

How many people on Twitter run a jail or prison? No idea. BUT, all jails in the US should offer all treatments for OUD. The Dept of Justice says so. So does every court decision in the last 4 years. And the 8th Amendment. What is the biggest barrier: The DEA.🧵
