I was angsting about starting my first 9 to 5 gig in two years tomorrow, so my wife cooked me a week of delicious vegetarian meals to take for lunches. When you meet the right person, you marry them, if you can.

Or you spend your life together without marrying? Because why the fuck would marriage be the non-plus-ultra of relationships? (Not to mention that that’s pretty monogamous-normative)

What a genuinely weird thing to get angry about - a sweet story of finding the right person and wanting to be with them.

I’m not angry, I’m trying to tell a person who I know is progressive and open for such input that he was being normative in a way that hurts some people.

You keep using that word. I am not sure it means what you think it means.

You keep using that phrase, but it only works if you actually tell me which word you mean and in case of words that have inherent meanings both in the dictionary and associative.

Normative. It is entirely reasonable to assume monogamy as the 'norm' because it is. He was clearly in no way implying it is exclusively correct or alternatives aren't perfectly fine. You're trying to take offence where there is none. Save your ire for real issues.

The association of „normative“ in such a context is not that it‘s just the norm, but to talk about it as if it was „right“, „better“, or even the only thing. Just like here; marriage as the „ultimate“ goal is normative and causes heavy problems for a lot of non-monogamous people.

Especially those who aren‘t aware. Like with heteronormativity and cisnormativity. These things are never explicitly stated as the One and Only True™ way of being (outside of bigotry), but the way they‘re handled and talked about communicates exactly that subconsciously.

It isn't but clearly you've spent too much time in an incel subredditt or similar so I'll leave you to your self-imposed victimhood and desperation for attention and hope that you grow out of it soon.
