Here’s the bottom line: Foreign countries engage in covert political warfare when they believe there is a vulnerability which can be exploited to their country’s benefit. So, when particular individuals are targeted, ask 1) what are they exploiting and 2) what’s the payoff? 1/

Russia has a number of objectives that it seeks through subversion to achieve what it can’t through, say, military or economic means (like the U.S. can): 1) weaken the U.S. and its institutions; 2) erode American global influence; 3) support regimes that promote its interests 2/

Any candidate who is being targeted by Russia — even unwittingly or unsolicited — OUGHT to have the self-reflection to ask: What is it that I do, or stand for, or promote that helps Russia in these goals? And if they are exploiting that, how can I neutralize it? 3/

Disavowing it is an obvious start, and it’s good that Bernie, at least, did that. But a major self-created vulnerability that Russia already has in its favor is internal division, political polarization, increasing cynicism in elections, law enforcement, and the judiciary...4/

So any candidate who capitalizes on or provokes those factors is, ultimately, fertilizing the ground in which the seeds of Russia’s efforts can flourish. It’s their *actions*, once they learn that they are being used, which tells you how serious they are about stopping it. END

Bernie Sanders is a narcissist. Not on the level of Trump, but he is. And if Trump were not the incumbent, and in normal times, with Bernie’s behavioral history in national contests, his narcissism would and should be a discussed topic.

"It’s their *actions*, once they learn that they are being used, which tells you how serious they are about stopping it." Yup. So far, however, all I'm seeing is ego over country. Clear denunciations should be made, preferably well before Super Tuesday. Also, I'd like a pony.

Sanders's serious (since long ago) about fixing issues that Trump's allies exploited. (prevent gerrymandering and bought politicians, improve access to education, reduce wealth inequality...) if any past government would have fixed at least some of those, USA wouldn't have Trump.
