    Today we had a bit of a different steering group meeting for the SMARTIES project! We all tested out this decision-tree game as a tool to deliberate future surveillance and management options if emerald ash borer was introduced into the UK. Stay tuned for updates!

    I'm planting a small Pinnatum (a word I'm pretty sure I've invented) i.e. a collection of trees with pinnate or feather-like leaves as analogues for the ash we are losing. As an early birthday present my wife has bought me a selection. They will need a little growing on first!

    This includes soil type, age of tree & density of planting.  In the UK, the disease has been observed progressing quickly in young trees, trees growing in stressed conditions a& ash dominated woodlands with higher levels of leaf litter and spore loads.

    : Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) across seems to have faired quite well this summer in the face of disease, perhaps as a result of it being quite wet. you can help to map Ash across the city to help manage the disease?

    If you know of tolerant trees within a woodland setting, with many surrounding ash that are badly infected with ash dieback, we want to hear from you. You can report tolerant trees using your smartphone in the field, or on the Report a Tree tab.
