SSo I finished reading Peterson's book (after going back to @slatestarcodex 's review and @alexeyguzey 's recommendation). It's hard to evaluate, and this is why I think has generated such polarising reaction.

You can interpret the book in many ways, and then when poked he could always say "Ah, but by this I meant X" Religious people will see it as more religious than it is, his haters will see attempted enforcement of traditional gender roles.

Or one can also read generic common sense from it, which is what I did. To me the book is Peterson telling you that cleaning your room embodies the archetype of the Good vs Evil battle and survival of society depends on said cleaning being done.
