Surprising shoutout to America's lead pipes from Joe Biden during a speech otherwise laying out major economic reforms. Replacing lead pipes is a costly hassle with little short-term political benefit, but major long-term health benefits for millions.https://www.huffpost.com/entry/joe-biden-joint-speech-congress_n_608a1114e4b0ccb91c2daab1 …

Kudos to @Robillard for including the pipes in his writeup of last night, which also highlights Biden's GOP outreach despite the GOP's refusal to like, recognize the legitimacy of his presidency? Kind of a problem, that.

If the research is right it's also probably more cost effective in terms of crime prevention than a lot of public safety spending programs.

There are so many good reasons to do it, but basically no health benefit detectable without a regression analysis years from now. Unless people LIKED the idea of trusty pipes... but we already know they don't care, or else this would have happened after Flint.

When Noem and others were mocking the lead pipes provision a few weeks back, @repcleaver said to me that he didn’t understand how any parent could oppose the idea of ensuring clean drinking water for kids.

He’s right. It’s hard to understand how Republicans oppose many of the things the Biden administration is working on. They didn’t even cheer when he talked about cutting child poverty in half. What kind of political party is opposed to eradicating child poverty?!?
