A new phenomenon? #misogyny #terrorism? Side note. A friend once jokingly had told me that “the Taliban are fighting because they are sexually repressed...”

This piece does not understand that incels are primarily concerned with MISOGYNY, not SEX. What unites and motivates these men is HATE. You need better sources who understand this, not randos talking off the top of their heads.

Why do you immediately get into identity politics & label this ‘group’ few have even heard of as part of ‘the right’? Why are you drawing concrete conclusions on this guy’s motives so quickly on mere speculation? He also has severe Aspergers & had cited problems in the Military.

I wonder if the Waffle House murderer was an “Incel”.
-
Interesting point, Ms. KM. I too have been thinking about the many males who try to derail twitter threads with any sort of opposing views.
-
Also have been thinking of men's reactions to MeToo and TimesUp, how they seem so (afraid) vehemently against it.
-
I found the
@arshymann thread interesting. I had never heard the term, or its origin story.

Well I’ve learned something new today and it’s only 3:32am. “Incel subculture”. Maybe their time would be better spent on self improvement instead of radicalizing their “victimhood”.

She probably used the term to be purely, offensive, derogatory & hurtful towards less attractive straight men & here you go massively working to perpetuate the troubles these people face & as a gay man (I bet) who knows little of what they face. Dangerously irresponsible work.

Can we please not conflate autism with this? Here are a bunch of autistic people on a dating forum just being people. They are already living under a really nasty stigma. https://wrongplanet.net/forums/viewforum.php?f=6&sid=c0c3795eabb85bfa05ceea0d50477986 …

@Littleshrimpcat thought you'd find this interesting.. If you haven't read I already! -
I heard the term but fuck this is so scary. I'm always amazed by what you can unearth on the net. So much of what I read is tailored to what I want to hear. But you crack that shell and all this hate pours out. It's scary.

I don't think that these types of articles are going to help. Labeling incels as "mental illness" stigmatizes mental illness more and ignores the material conditions in which people calling themselves "incel" are made. "Incel" is an anti-male term used to foster male anxiety.

why are we so dumb

@SurenAbreu This is the article i was talking about the other day. Let me know how horrified you are after this! -
This is horrifying, Steffi - to such dark depths have people allowed themselves to be dragged!
-
Exactly! The dark side of the internet just terrifies me!

Is it just me or does Amarnath Amarasingam sound like he is downplaying this by saying these forums are simply a place for men to "talk smack"? Because you know, "boys will be boys"... this is dangerous always.
-
I can promise you he's not. I'm sorry if I didn't convey it well, but his point was: These forums can be a place for some men to come and run their mouths *but/and* it unpins and supports a more virulent, violent misogyny. He wasn't trying to divorce the two.
-
Thank you for clarifying. The article is great but that quote didn’t sit right.
