Throughout the developing world, when people get access to dairy products and meat, their stature and IQ tend to shoot up. Denying this opportunity to the many people who are vegetarians through poverty rather than choice would be grotesque:

Aticle discussing the accuracy of HBO's Chernobyl. What's the potential damage to the world long term?

Really hits the nail on the head re: fear of nuclear energy and why there are so many people that are against it.

Favourite chart from the excellent report released today. Emps appear to provide less training to those employees whom they say lack nec. skills! Adds to understanding of vicious cycle of higher quald people being more likely to engage in training.

We have calculated the decline, from 1979 to 2015, in the “time cost” of 16 common household items (i.e., the number of hours the average American would have to work to earn enough money to purchase various household items).

Sometimes we need to look at the total lifecycle CO2 footprint: "Research at the University of Hong Kong has found that green walls covered in plants to turn carbon dioxide into oxygen required three to six times as much energy to build as a bare wall."

Pretty incredible if this is true, shows that China has been able to push tech into their military much faster than expected. Huge technical challenges surmounted in order to get something like this working.

Interesting data from 's Construction Trends (2018) report: - African gov'ts fund only 12.9% of their own infrastructure projects. - China finances 25.9% of African infrastructure development. - All other int'l financiers pay for 20.1%.

How long until it's completely accepted that an "average" star rating is 5 stars with <5 being bad. Will this eventually permeate through all of society until there is no way to differentiate between excellent and not horrible? I'm blaming Uber/Amazon for this phenomenon.

This should be interesting. The administration is now apparently ready to focus on ... not because of Africa itself, of course, but because they see it as another region to confront 's growing international influence.

I wonder how the ants decide whether or not their 'roads' need the sand moved to the sides. How much does it reduce the overall energy usage of the colony (extra distance travelled vs moving the sand).

If the UK applied the same vibration rules to other industries as to shale gas, we'd not be able to build wind turbines or underground lines:
