    North Korea may have been testing a "post boost vehicle" (also called a "bus") used to deliver multiple nuclear warheads from a big ICBM like the Hwasong-17. A short thread.

    The tests were of a missile reportedly larger than an ICBM North Korea launched in 2017 that was assessed to be capable of reaching the U.S. Multiple UN Security Council resolutions prohibit North Korea from firing intercontinental ballistic missiles.

    The world is not a fair place and effective foreign policy is mostly about the least worst choices - and in this case, Russia would also be walking away with a wrecked economy and a likely-permanent anti-Moscow coalition.

    It doesn't work that Russia gets to invade an unoffending neighbor, kill thousands of people, smash cities - and then if its dictator realizes that he cannot win, propose to retreat to its starting line and pocket a no-EU-for-Ukraine concession as a consolation prize.

    Japan’s NHK News has issued a report that North Korea may have fired a possible ballistic missile. Usually South Korea’s JCS informs us via a message system. We haven’t had that verification. The US and South Korea had warned of a possible imminent missile test.
