    These two tweets capture well the challenges of reviving the nuclear deal.

    Western officials would like to frame Iran's nuclear tech progress as meaning that Iran should itself hurry and make concessions quickly. Iran sees the pressure as being on the other side since its the one making the nuclear progress. Its obviously not trying to pressure itself.

    GOP discourse on Iran makes more sense when you realize it has nothing to do with whether a policy works—instead all that matters is appearing tough. Thus JCPOA was bad even though it clearly reduced the nuclear threat. Maximum pressure is good even when it massively backfires.
