Elite Bargains and Political Deals available here. Honoured to have written the case study on the Bangsamoro peace process. Lots of great papers from other conflict contexts, and the SU's capping paper holds many lessons on third party interventions.

I had a great time with the lovely people at ! I shared some reflections on addressing protracted armed conflict and rights violations. I also talked about my experiences as a female lawyer in peace talks & working at the Commission on Human Rights under the Duterte admin.

Great article by on how comparative scholars sometimes "misread" constitutional texts, with a focus on the Philippines

Thanks to @ArmiBayot & @PattyStaMaria for reassuring me that the essay was fair before I sent it in (and to Armi for advising me against using a metaphor I removed from the draft). @gautambhatia88 remember when I first told you about the article I criticize here? twitter.com/ICONnect_blog/…

Last week, a certain foreign academic wrote to me and told me that the Philippines never contributed to knowledge and had no real research to speak of. This week's column is my response to his vitriol and hopelessness. Read opinion.inquirer.net/153983/battlin

"Reuters found that the official death certificates of at least 15 drug war victims did not reflect the violent manner in which police and family members said they died."

Philippine graves are typically rented. If a family can’t afford to extend the lease, the remains are exhumed. As the drug war dead resurface, so does the truth of how they died reut.rs/3M7q8E9

Must read piece by Caroline Hau "To put it bluntly, Tiglao himself is an example of the failure of the country’s intellectuals (a category that includes not only academics, but also public intellectuals) to engage in sustained systematic study and analysis of the Marcos era."

A long overdue, bittersweet win: "In a landmark decision decades in the making, a local court in Marinduque has ruled in favor of at least thirty plaintiffs against the Marcopper Mining Corporation, for a mine spill that wreaked havoc on the community on December 3, 1993."

#NatureWins: After two decades, the Marcopper case has finally been resolved. Judge awards damages to at least 30 survivors who were deeply impacted by the Marcopper disaster. Read more: lrcksk.org/post/in-histor #MarcopperAnyare #BuhayBagoKita

We have an ongoing crisis as a consequence of the Marawi siege and the wholly inadequate government response. How many internally displaced persons are now permanently unable to return home?
Quote Tweet
Fifth anniversary of the Marawi siege today. Deep sadness for friends and colleagues still unable to return, and constant waves of helplessness and rage amid years of technical accompaniment. Sa sports complex at road widening pa lang, marami na talagang hindi na makakauwi.

The next batch of commissioners should not forget the reason the Commission on Human Rights was created in the first place: as a response to the horrors and abuses of Martial Law, when thousands were killed, tortured, and disappeared.
