It’s just embarrassing sometimes how easily the left gets played automobile industry convinced folks that car ownership is gritty working class while buses are gentrifier icons cash bail industry got a bunch of us to defend it by saying “algorithms” in a spoooooky voice

The algorithm that was suppose to replaced cash bail was pretty shitty tbh. So much the SoCal ACLU opposed Prop 25 . I voted yes, but I don’t think we should dismiss how bad the algorithm actually was.

The initial bill was super good. It was something @chesaboudin and others worked really hard on, were really supportive of, and then backed out when the changes were made. We should reintroduce it as originally intended and get it passed.

We should! But when it came time to actually vote, the ACLU and others chose to be clown themselves by joining hands with the cash bail industry

I wouldn’t say they clowned themselves. It wasn’t great as proposed. A lot of fixing was need had it passed. I voted yes but it not passing is a “meh.”

I voted no even though I vehemently oppose cash bail. I do statistical analysis for a living, so algorithms are my bread and butter. The problem is that what you get out of an algorithm depends on the data used to develop it. Data from a heavily racially biased 1/

Even a poorly trained algorithm is better than the "are you rich" heuristic, and are infinitely more fixable.
