  4. He was involved in treaty negotiations when serving in Panama at Fort Clayton and was in charge of military security in the Canal Zone. He received the Legion of Merit for his service.

  5. Lobodinski served in Korea in 1963 and was also a Provost Marshal with the 101st Airborne in Vietnam, as well as at Fort Knox, Fort Still and Fort Benning.

  11. Throughout her military career, Ball helped pave the way for women to serve as regular members of the Coast Guard. She is laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Section 8.

  12. However, Ball re-enlisted in the regular Coast Guard during the Korean War. She was promoted to the rank of commander in 1956 and remained in the Coast Guard until her retirement in 1961.

  13. Barr joined as a lieutenant, becoming part of the first SPAR company, and she served as an intelligence officer in Washington, D.C., New York and Miami. She returned to civilian life when the military disbanded SPAR after the war.

  14. During World War II, Ball enlisted in the U.S. Naval Women’s Reserve (known as the Navy WAVES) in 1942. She soon transferred to the Coast Guard, after it formed its Women’s Reserve (SPAR) in November 1942.

  18. (cont) Hudgins was also responsible aboard the Barque Eagle to renovate it to accept female cadets. After 20 years of service, he went to college where he graduated with 3 degrees.

  19. Howard Hudgins (Section 67, Gravesite 2819) A Lt Cmdr with the U.S. Coast Guard, Hudgins originally enlisted on Coast Guard Day in 1958. He traveled around the world twice and served aboard the tall ship USCG Barque Eagle during the Bi-Centennial Celebration in NY Harbor. (cont)
