Avalanches really can produce up to 180 dB, just like Ariane 5 during launch, even if it’s quite rare for an avalanche to reach that level of intensity.

I've never heard of avalanche survivors having gone deaf, but I'm pretty sure an Ariane launch would do exactly that to a person close to it. So I'm betting on the rocket.

I belive I heard that the sound energy alone from the launch of a Saturn V could kill you even from a fair bit away.
