I remember when the first ATV was put into orbit, it was the first time Ariane 5 participated directly to the manned space program and the first flight of Ariane 5 ES, lofting one of the heaviest payload ever (20t+).pic.twitter.com/f64g18nSEQ

My favorite Ariane moment is Ariane 5’s desintegration during its maiden flight. It drew attention to software issues while not risking the lives of astronauts and passengers and was inportant in renewing interest in formal verification of software.
