@nothings Your "counterexample" misses the point that a valid view plane with view frustum was assumed. General plane vs. cone is conic.

@AriSilvennoinen I'm not missing anything. All you need is view frustum to intersect sphere cone. Easy if sphere is big (viewer on planet). -
@nothings As long as the intersection of the cone and the image plane is a closed plane curve we have an ellipse. Otherwise it is a conic. - Voir les réponses
