Doesn’t hurt to note that those demanding the shibboleth of BTC purity seem to all sell BTC into fiat in one form or another as part of their business (fees for their groups/dinners/services, mining, etc.) Everyone is shilling, some just frame their pitch as a moral imperative.

Ari, what tools are you seeing emerge that can or will displace BTC??
-
I don’t see any likely replacement currently, but there’s likely room for something with much better security imo. The ultimate contender might not be born for another 10 years.

It’s more than an asset.

Indeed, many are. All money is a shared belief. And bitcoin is a tool against oppression as I said. But that’s the key. It’s a tool, a means to an end. Confusing means for ends has its religious equivalence: idolatry.

Money is literally a religion. Its value is based on faith and faith alone.

Almost everything in life is based on some degree of shared belief and narrative. That doesn’t mean it’s explicitly illogical. Your expectation that the dollar will have value tomorrow is empirical and logical even though USD is based on a shared belief.

It very clearly is a religion to many people and I'd argue that the fact that these assets/protocols have cult-like followings is why they're able to accrue significant value and stay relevant (whether they "deserve" it or not).
-
I could rephrase: it’s comical to prostrate yourself in front of a BTC ticker and confuse blind fealty for morality. Being a religious follower of a protocol and financial asset is silly.

Most investors underappreciate the religious dimension of Bitcoin. Not only does Bitcoin share features of religion—Satoshi, the “immaculate conception,” competing exegeses of the whitepaper, etc.—quasi-religious belief and commitment are crucial for the technology’s adoption.
-
I appreciate these aspects. But just as the Catholic Church eventually accepted modern science out of necessity, if the religious views around bitcoin prevent rational decision making, its doomed. It relies on technology and game theory that can’t be wished away.
