Gridlock between supporters of Klobuchar, Buttigieg, Yang at precinct at Ames city auditorium. So they joined as uncommitted. Sanders group was only a person or 2 away from another delegate but couldn’t woo more, I’m told. Sanders 4 Warren 3 Uncommitted 1 Biden not viable.

Cancelling primaries & caucuses. Rigging primaries to make it impossible for challengers. Counting the ballots at caucuses in secret. Don’t talk to me about “rigging” elections...

New reporting from : Sources on two different campaigns say call w/ IDP got very testy & that the party abruptly ended the call when campaigns pressed for a time when results would be ready.

The only good thing that might come out of this is a national consensus to stop letting a small and unrepresentative state like Iowa completely hijack the primary process every four years.

The Trump campaign, however, is using the delay to its advantage, questioning, without evidence, the fairness of the process: "It would be natural for people to doubt the fairness of the process," says in a statement

“I know the process well that the Democrats are using,” Kaufmann told CNN via phone on his drive home to Eastern Iowa from a Trump campaign watch party. “It’s much important to get this count right and perhaps wait, perhaps miss a deadline, than to put out inaccurate results."

"If that means waiting until tomorrow morning, then so be it," Kaufmann said. In his role with Iowa GOP, he has worked closely alongside IA Democratic Party officials for the past four years, calling himself a “relentless supporter” of preserving IA's “first in the nation” status

While Eric Trump claims Dems are "rigging this thing," I spoke w/ Chair Jeff Kaufmann. His assessment: “I think everyone needs to take a deep breath & let the Dem Party, who has backups to the backups...make sure & rpt these results & rpt them in a way that is accurate."

When campaigns pressed Iowa Democratic Party officials for detail on when the caucus results would be released, the state party ended the call.

this also illustrates an important point--the results can't be manipulated because each vote is public. everyone there knows how it turned out. this of course doesn't stop conspiracy-peddling from the people surrounding the guy whose election involved interference

In conference call with campaigns, Iowa state party officials struggle to explain why results are delayed w “It’s just a total mess and no timeline for when it becomes clearer,” a source affiliated with one campaign said.

Also this is the second person I've spoken with who has said their caucus site had two precincts in same gym, that it led to lots of messiness. Going to editorialize here and say that two precincts in one room.........just seems like a recipe for confusion? 2/

Spoke to a Warren precinct captain. She told me at her site there was a mistake in the counting/math at first, but Warren camp has its own delegate math app. So she did math and showed folks in charge, helped save a delegate for Warren. This is how these things work I guess! 1/

The Trump campaign is jumping right in, questioning if Dems can operate a government run health care system if they can't run a caucus.

Without evidence, top Trump campaign officials — including sons & — are sowing distrust in the democratic process, suggesting the Democratic Iowa caucuses are “rigged.”

“This is simply a reporting issue, the app did not go down and this is not a hack or an intrusion. The underlying data and paper trail is sound and will simply take time to further report the result.”

Getting past midnight Eastern (in 7 minutes) with 0 results officially reported kind of feels like the point of no return for the Iowa caucus. (Of course this take will probably be wrong because nothing ever changes.)

Democrats are stepping all over their own dicks in Iowa, but that hasn't stopped Bernie from giving a completely inane victory speech at nearly midnight. I guess when the Democrats screw things up, it helps not to be an actual Democrat.

I want to thank our incredible supporters and volunteers in Iowa — and all across the country. Now, it’s onto New Hampshire, Nevada, South Carolina, and beyond!
