    1. Argentina Project‏ @ArgentinaProj 28 Nov 2017

We held a fascinating @LATAMProg @WWCArgentina discussion today, at @TheWilsonCenter, with @MindeTransporte's @Guillodietrich, who discussed @mauriciomacri's $33 billion Plan Nacional de Transporte.

      Argentina Project‏ @ArgentinaProj 28 Nov 2017

Argentina's transportation infrastructure agenda is ambitious to say the least, especially given budget constraints; the target for the fiscal deficit for this year is 4.2% of GDP, and 3.2% for 2018.

Despite over all belt tightening, @mauriciomacri is all in on infrastructure. On Nov. 2, Commerce Secretary @braunmi and Under Secretary @ShunkoRojas said infrastructure spending would increase from 2.4% of GDP in 2016 to 2.6% this year to 3.5% in 2018.https://www.wilsoncenter.org/event/examining-the-regional-economy-latin-america-and-the-case-argentina …

As we heard today from Transportation Minister @Guillodietrich, transportation spending is a central part of Argentina's national infrastructure plan. Among the objectives: a doubling of Argentina's highways, and a fivefold increase in the amount of cargo transported by railroad.pic.twitter.com/GcsUmkxYDd

Argentina's Plan Nacional de Transporte also involves massive public works at airports and seaports. In his remarks @TheWilsonCenter, @Guillodietrich forecast a doubling of domestic airline passengers by 2019, in part thanks to new entrants, such as @Avianca and @Fly_Norwegian.

To quantify @mauriciomacri's roadbuilding spree, @MindeTransporte's @Guillodietrich points to record cement consumption and purchases of mobile asphalt plants (40 this year alone).pic.twitter.com/FWEY2k8StG

Expanding the commercial airline sector is considered low-hanging fruit, given @aerolineasar's dominance (this month, @Avianca became Argentina's first new carrier in 11 years) and poor performance (a $300 million loss in 2016; a $553 million loss in 2015).

For now, @Guillodietrich says, Argentines still rarely fly domestically, with the rate of air travel stagnant and well below the levels in Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru.pic.twitter.com/uauo68xdhW
