Early Wednesday morning, Argentina's Senate voted to legalize abortion, with 38 votes in favor, 29 against and 1 abstention. Argentina becomes the third, and largest, country in Latin America to legalize abortion.

For Argentina's pro-choice "pañuelo verde" movement, the legalization of abortion is a triumph years in the making. Increased support from Peronist and female lawmakers gave the measure comfortable margins in both chambers of Congress.
