Not surprisingly, President @mauriciomacri's expansion of @CFKArgentina-era price controls was not reassuring to Wall Street. "Price controls have generally failed in Argentina (and the world)," @jpmorgan wrote in a research note on #Argenitna's latest inflation-control measures.
That said, analysts will likely applaud elements of the reforms, such as efforts to control inflation by increasing domestic competition. The Casa Rosada said it would address "conductas monopólicas de grandes empresas" and wage a "lucha contra posiciones dominantes."
Voters, meanwhile, will be pleased to hear that prices for electricity, natural gas and public transportation will be frozen for the remainder of this (election) year, even as #Argentina tries to meet the #IMF's zero deficit requirement.
It is unclear whether relief from utility price hikes, coupled with price controls for popular food items, will be enough to buoy President @mauriciomacri's reelection campaign, in a year of negative economic growth in #Argentina and inflation that analysts expect to hit 36%.
