The handshake is NOT hard to do at all - we managed it every week decades ago in Girl Scouts. He appears to not understand the concept that most 3rd graders have down pat!!!

Bad placement in the picture. Wide body with arms that do not stretch well laterally, placed next to two shorter persons. Bilateral Upper Extremity internal rotation with shoulder flexion+ too tall+ bad flexibility= good photo opportunity.
