Update, I've seen the theory posited on MMO-Champion that maybe it was meant to be the Blizzcon in game item like the yeti transmog set from last year. It could be that they were linked, similar to how you do a quick quest for the Eternal Traveler set. If you bought the Blizzcon ticket, you unlock the Murder Mystery quest and upon completion, you get the set.
