is blockchain cool tech? sure, absolutely. Should cryptocurrency exist? I don't think so, personally.

For better or worse, blockchain is becoming a massive market, especially in the EU. You have innovations using blockchain in sectors ranging from agriculture to life sciences. Hopefully with time and IoT tech also on the rise, it becomes more eco friendly soon.
In a world riddled with security and privacy breaches, I can see a case that can be made for crypto based on the misconception of protection it creates, but unless it becomes much more ecologically sustainable, I agree it should be put on hold as a technology.
