It was actually used to test Apple’s built-in in-app purchasing payment system, which at the time was not yet implemented. It was somehow mistakenly approved and listed on the App Store, but removed several days later after multiple news outlets took notice.
GameStore, an early testing version of the App Store. First added to the App Store in 2009, it seemingly became available for purchase for some reason in 2012. It had 4 test games you could buy. I just realized that the GameStore page on the iPhone Wiki has next to no explanation of the app. I will be fixing that soon.
