That’s very cool - an external Apple FW SuperDrive would have been neat. Although I suppose countless companies were doing so at the time as well.
Nice clean design, and so very Apple to have the port dead center! But only one? No FW daisy chaining? 
This unit was a very early EVT, or Engineering Validation Test, the first stage of design, and since the end product turned out completely different this was nowhere near the final design! If they had used this design they might have added 2 but this only had one for testing!
Is this an external hard disk or DVD drive because the super drive name is their DVD drive but this looks like a hard disk
Huh, I guess I didn’t pay attention. You’re right, “SuperDrive” was for optical media, but this looks like a hard disk. Apple was maybe experimenting with branding. Also... all lowercase? That’s different.
