You can only the cellular to get internet connection. All mobile phones sold in mainland China before 2010 did not have Wi-Fi capabilities
That’s what I thought! I think it was due to the government not approving it for some reason. I hope to find one of those models one day!

You can get much as you want from taobao easily, Chinese version of 3G/3GS in China even cheaper than the normal version because it is not fully functional (no WiFi)

Interesting, I had been told they were quite rare and this assumption was backed up by a non-fruitful eBay search! I will check TaoBao, however!
