It’s also why I refuse, as a heritage professional, to allow myself to be called an ‘expert’. There’s always a community - connected by place, interest, trade/profession etc - that are collectively the real experts. Professionals listen, and facilitate.

And it’s not just my anecdotal evidence. The experts said only c7,000 would use Stow per annum. 16/17: 67,474 passengers. So often the same with public transport usage predictions. Woeful conservatism, undermining cost/benefit ratios.

It’s testament to the community of Stow who campaigned for a station in the village, serving not just Stow, but Lauder, Clovenfords, Fountainhall. I’m delighted to have moved to a village that can pull together and achieve things like that.

18pax got on 0810 train this morning at Stow. Tavish Scott MSP, Transport Scotland, and ‘transport experts’ were staunchly against a station here on new Borders Railway. Said only 20pax *a day* would use Stow, only 6(!) to Edinburgh. They were wrong. Build it, and they will come.

Astonishing spin as Scot Gov failed to explain why they wanted a power that already exists. Who knew legislation needed scrutiny?

Just came across this wee gem on the inside cover of a 1905 Caledonian Railway tourist map... Isn’t it lovely?!

Although what I really, really need is an auto-scheduler assistant thingy - something that takes everything I want to see and organises all the diary dates/clashes.

But it was worth it this evening as I thoroughly enjoyed (my colleague) Louisa Humm’s lecture on William Adam and Formal Landscape Design. Splendidly illustrated and lots to think about!

It was also once much bigger. Two wings were removed in the ‘60s. A couple of pics on Canmore show it before:

Apparently community tried to buy it, but funds from the Big Lottery Fund were being diverted at the time to a little three-week event in London: . But I’m glad it’s been well looked after. Listed building report also interesting:

I promise there won’t be a sickening thread of ‘views from the hot tub’ tweets, but Glencoe in winter - spectacular!
