just learnt that you guys don't have to give your dogs names that start with a letter associated which each year, it's just a French thing

isn't it only for purebred dogs though? in my mind it's linked to dog shows and stuff so just for the fancy dogs

It's needed for dogs and cats with pedigrees (made data processing easier for pedigree societies in the 19th century)
