Having a grammar query: "Why did Jane write this?" & "Jane wrote this". Surely Jane is the subject both times? Why different tense?
@thmsbsh "did" is the marker of the preterit it's the same tense. Like you'd say "Jane says this" & what "what does Jane say?" both present

@Arcadian_O Winston Churchill didn't die a hero for me to be lectured on my own language by a bloody European

@thmsbsh France didn't export their elite from 16th to 18th century to become the ruling class of Britain for me not to lecture you. -
@Arcadian_O Henry V didn't slaughter his prisoners & leave Rouenien children to starve in the gutter for me to not continue an ancient beef -
@thmsbsh We didn't bring you the word "beef" for you to use it against me. -
@Arcadian_O shit there's nothing pre-Norman conquest to draw on. -
@thmsbsh Also while I am at it who do you think brought you prisoners, gutter, continue, ancient? -
@Arcadian_O ultimately the bloody Romans -
