First of all talking about how the debate has become toxic and pretending the two sides of the debates are somehow equally responsible is distasteful. Ask any trans women in the UK and you will hear stories of harassment and bullying from terfs

The guardian suggests it's too early to tell if gender recognition act will have negative consequences because Ireland, Scotland and Denmark only recently allowed self-declared gender recognition

How about stepping away from a global North narrow vision of the world and looking at countries like Argentina and Colombia that have legalised it for years?

The guardian never tries questioning the terf narrative. People are scared of all sorts of things: migrants, travellers, Muslims, Jews, PoC, queer people... The reason I read the guardian and not the daily mail is because they don't normally give in to the easy narrative of fear

So how about challenging terfs? Because I frankly have yet to see any evidence that trans women are the biggest threat cis women face. Or that they are a threat in any shape or form.

Yes there is one man who pretended to be trans to be sent to a women's jail & raped women. To those agitating this case I hope you realise how outrageous it would be with any other minority to take a single case and decide it should affect rights of all members of that group.

Classic example given is that cis rape survivors may not want to be part of support group with trans people. Do you seriously think this is the biggest issue rape survivors face?

And this is generally my problem with terfs, aside from the horror of transphobia they completely fail to understand the real threats women genuinely face.

In the UK 78% (!!!!!) of women who are killed are killed by their partner or ex. So to all straight women, take a good long look at the person in your bed because if you get killed there is 8 out 10 chance he will be the murderer.

But sure, in that context, do tell me about the threat that trans women represent, that's a cool story

Also if anyone thinks people would just pretend to be women for the fun of it you clearly have missed the news about how horrendous our society makes it to be a woman. And you clearly have no idea how even more difficult being a trans person is. [/end]
