Ad for 魔城伝説II ポポロン激闘編/Majō Densetsu II: Popolon Gekitōhen, an unreleased sequel to Knightmare announced by Konami for the NEC PC-8801 and Sharp X1. This was different from the later released MSX sequel (Maze of Galious). From the January 1987 issue of I/O Magazine.

So I take this to mean that there should be a relatively complete, playable version of this somewhere out in the wild? Do you know if someone has it?

Your guesses are as good as mine. Nothing has surfaced as far as I know. The writer for the preview says that game was still incomplete, but he got to play it anyway.
