This is clearly out of context. I used to work at a verified seller store and we never had to do this. They were sent to Apple for recycling or some models were sold as refurbished. This post is clearly bs for clout.

Most e-waste "recycling" means it ends up in a landfill anyway. Large amounts of e-waste will be loaded on to ships and sent to third world countries to be dumped.
