I think they removed it because the the icon could be confused with the USB C

umm but what about all of the connectors without the logo, and still the lightning tips? Contacts on both sides.

The symbol is just on one side, the photo happens to all be a bunch of demo lightning connectors and the point of the tweet is that they may have only worked one way - because the photo clearly shows the symbol on one side and not the other
