The “proper” way to dispose of Apple Prototype hardware. Before an Apple device has been publicly released, most prototypes are also shredded to extremely fine bits (to prevent design leaks). If that was truly real proto shouldn’t the SOC be whole punched? Even 00/01 SOC’s can be reused Additionally early hardware is left unmarked, that appears to be Prodish/PVT and just punched to prevent further usage, not destroy a proto

It looks like it was late pvt development boards that where drilled though to prevent further use

Smart though, it’s so late in the PVT phase that the cpu is most likely identical to prod and the only thing that is really sensitive information at that point is the software, so a hole through the NAND is quick and easy! Still pains me inside to see those pics though
